Preventative Maintenance

Grease Traps

Regular maintenance should be performed on grease traps every 90 to 180 days. The amount of time between cleanings will depend on the size and the usage of the trap. Once the grease trap is cleaned properly it should always be inspected throughly for cracks.

Sewers

  • Sewer cleaning is a must for some homes.
  • Homes with clay sewers have problems due to the way the materials were manufactured.
  • Tree roots are a large problem without  regular cleaning. Roots must be cleared to keep the sewer flowing properly.

Avoid Flushing

  • Sanitary Napkins
  • Tampons
  • Baby Wipes
  • and other large objects

These objects may claim to be flushable, however if there are tree roots in the sewer line these objects may get caught and form a build up and clog.

Drains

  • Regular drain cleaning is very normal for residential and commercial properties.
  • There are many types of chemicals available for cleaning drains, however this is only a band aid to a problem.
  • The true way to clean a drain is to use a cable machine. A cable machine will scrape the walls of the pipe to fully open and remove objects that may be caught on the inner walls of the pipes.
  • When a professional is called out for drain cleaning be sure to explain all steps attempted to clean the drain prior to their arrival. This ensures the best possible service.

Tips to Keep Drains Cleans

  • Use hair catchers in tubs
  • Run warm water when done shaving and brushing teeth to help pass the products down the drain.
  • COLD WATER will thicken these products making it hard to pass through the pipes.
  • For kitchen drains try to avoid grease and food products from going down into the pipes.
  • Use strainers in kitchen sinks  to catch food and other material from going down the drain.
